Transitioning Your AMC

Making a change in management services for your association is a long-term decision for board members and one that is time-intensive with a decisive impact on members and services. The process can be months in the making and requires strong board input. It’s important that board members understand that many factors need to be taken into consideration before such a significant change can be made. For more information, please visit our page How to Select an AMC. Once the decision has been made to move to a new association management company (AMC), the process is not over. Whether you’re making a move from AMC to AMC or if you’re a standalone using an AMC for the first time, you want to make sure the operation goes smoothly and that nothing gets lost during this critical time.

Transitioning your AMC also involves strong board input. Including board members on the transition team that have a good historical knowledge of the association is crucial. Working together with your new AMC to safely and efficiently transfer all of your important records and data is an important next step. You will need to make sure that the following is in place:

  • Comprehensive transition checklists
  • Detailed timeline for each step of the process
  • Transition team
  • Transition team call schedule with set call times, preferably on a weekly basis, at first

But who should be on your transition team? What should be included in association transition checklists? How long should transition take? How can you be sure that all of your association’s services will operate effectively under the new system?

Your new AMC can guide you through each step of the transition process. Watch Association Acumen’s video on Transitioning Your AMC to learn more!

In 2018, NYSSPA did an RFP for a management company and after much due diligence, we chose Association Acumen. At so many levels, this has been a fabulous relationship. I first heard them present at an American Academy of Physician Assistants meeting and I was so impressed I held onto their materials. They have helped us improve membership, our cash position in terms of membership engagement strategies and industry revenue streams. I would highly recommend Association Acumen.
