Last year, my 2023 prediction was that we’d start seeing large gains in AI become integrated in more technologies and industries – including association applications. And we did see a large number of technologies start incorporating more AI-powered features.  The topic was prevalent throughout the year’s publications and events as we discussed the opportunities, hurdles and considerations included with adopting AI-powered solutions. One of our clients even had an AI-drafted article published in their monthly newsletter!

This year, we’ll continue to explore AI, and I believe we’ll start to see outcomes and implications surface from early adopters that can be used by associations to help inform discussions on potential use cases for different organizations. The considerations of AI with relation to privacy laws will likely become a bigger part of the discussion, as well as any fallout from the recent lawsuit filed by The New York Times https://apnews.com/article/openai-new-york-times-chatgpt-lawsuit-grisham-nyt-69f78c404ace42c0070fdfb9dd4caeb7 which could potentially decimate the current AI platforms that used IP to build their data sets without explicit permission. 2023 was the year for AI to splash onto the scene, and I anticipate 2024 will be the year it’s trialed in various ways as companies and organizations trial the liabilities and opportunities AI offers.
